1664 | Second attempt at Dutch colonization, from Cape Town. |
1710 | Definitive abandonment of the island by the Dutch. |
1715 | Annexation of the island by the French who renamed it Isle de France. |
1719 | Louis XV cedes the island to the Compagnie des Indes. |
1721 | Arrival of the first French settlers. |
1735 | Beginning of the administration of Mahé de La Bourdonnais. Foundation of Port Louis. |
1745 | Opening of the first sugar factories in Ferney and Villebague. |
1746 | Mahé de La Bourdonnais falls out of favor and has to leave the island. |
