-2400 The Ciboney settled in Antigua and Barbuda.
1493 nov 10 Columbus lands on the island and names it after the Church of Santa Maria de la Antigua in Seville.
1666 nov 3 The French occupy the island.
1667 May The French returned the island to the English.
1674 Codrington founded a large sugar plantation, with slaves from the west coast of Africa.
1712 June The French privateer Cassard plundered the British colonies in the Antilles of Montserrat and Antigua.
1898 June Slocum makes short stops in Dominica and Antigua. 
1981 June 18 Antigua and Barbuda joins the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).
1981 nov 1 Antigua and Barbuda becomes independent as a Kingdom of the Commonwealth of Nations.
1981 Antigua and Barbuda is admitted to the UN.
2009 Antigua and Barbuda is a member of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas (ALBA).
2017 September 7 The island of Barbuda is devastated by Hurricane Irma.
