- 25000 BC AD ⇒ Arrival of the first settlements, ancestors of the Mayas on the current territory of Belize.
- 3000 BC AD ⇒ Sedentarization of the first farmers.
- 300 BC AD ⇒ Beginning of the Mayan era.
- 300 apr. AD ⇒ Beginning of the classical era, heyday of the Mayas.
- 900 ⇒ Sudden decline of the Mayas, abandonment of the great cities.
- 1798 ⇒ Battle of St. George's Caye. The British, helped by African slaves, prevail over the Spanish armada.
- 1802 ⇒ The Garifuna people are deported from the island of Saint-Vincent, and some of its members settle for the first time on the Belizean coast.
- 1833 ⇒ The British Colonial Empire abolishes slavery.
- 1862 ⇒ The British Colonial Empire declares the territory a colony of the English crown, subordinate to Jamaica and gives it the name of British Honduras.
- 1931 ⇒ On September 10, the country is hit by a hurricane of force 4 which takes with it more than 2,500 people. This hurricane remains today the most devastating natural disaster in the history of the country.
- 1954 ⇒ The right to vote is granted to the entire adult population. Creation of the People's United Party (PUP).
- 1961 ⇒ Georges Price, head of the People's United Party, is elected Prime Minister. That same year, Hurricane Hattie hit the country and killed more than 260 people.
- 1970 ⇒ Belmopan becomes the capital of the country.
- 1973 ⇒ British Honduras is renamed Belize.
- 1981 ⇒ On September 21, after more than 30 years of political struggle, the country obtains its independence.
- 1984 ⇒ The country's first democratic elections are organized, the United Democratic Party wins the elections and Manuel Esquivel, its president, becomes the country's prime minister.
- 1989 ⇒ The People's United Party wins the election, with George Price at the helm.
- 1991 ⇒ Guatemala recognizes the independence of Belize.
- 1993 ⇒ The country returns to the hands of the United Democratic Party for 5 years.
- 1998 ⇒ The People's United Party wins the elections, Said Musa becomes Prime Minister of the country and remains for 10 years.
- 2008 ⇒ The United Democratic Party wins the elections, and Dean Barrow becomes Prime Minister, a post he has not left since.
- 2012 ⇒ Prince Harry's visit to Belize as part of the "Diamond Jubilee" tour celebrating the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's accession to the throne.
- 2015 ⇒ Re-election of Prime Minister Dean Oliver Barrow. His term will end in November 2020.
- 2016 ⇒ Laws declaring same-sex sexual relations illegal are ruled unconstitutional by the country's Supreme Court.
- 2017 ⇒ Parliament adopts the law banning oil drilling in the country's territorial waters, in order to protect the Barrier Reef.
- 2018 ⇒ Guatemalans respond positively (95%) to the proposal by referendum to seize the International Court of Justice for the final settlement of the territorial conflict with Belize.
- 2019 ⇒ Belizeans also say they are in favor, but by a narrow majority, of bringing proceedings before the International Court of Justice.
