300,000 years BC first traces of the presence of prehistoric men on Monegasque soil.
6th century BC the Monoïkos settle on the Rock.
122 BC the harbor is renamed Portus Herculis Monoeci, "Port Hercule".
1191 construction of a fortress on the Rock begins.
January 8, 1297 François Grimaldi Malizia ("the cunning") enters, disguised as a Franciscan monk, into the enclosure of the Ghibelline fortress, and takes possession of it. The memory remains marked in the coat of arms of the Grimaldi (held by two monks brandishing a swo
1346 Charles I, son of Rainier I, acquires the Lordship of Menton. The Ghibellines are in power on the Rock.
1356 Charles I returns to Monaco where he becomes the owner.
1355 Charles I acquires the stronghold of Roquebrune. The Rock returns to the hands of the Ghibellines.
1419 the sons of Rainier II become the Coseigneurs of Monaco. Roquebrune, Monaco and Menton form one and the same territory. The Grimaldi are established on the Rock almost permanently.
1454 drafting of the first testament by John I guaranteeing the succession of the Grimaldi to the throne
1482 Louis XI offers protection to Monaco and recognizes its autonomy.
1612 the patronymic name of the Grimaldi disappears. Monaco becomes a Principality.
1663 construction of the monumental double revolution staircase giving the Cour d'Honneur its final appearance.
1709 construction of Fort Antoine.
1793 integration of Monaco into French territory under the name of Fort Hercule, commune of the Alpes-Maritimes. Disappearance of Monaco as a Principality. The members of the Princely Family are deprived of their title.
1805 annexations of Menton and Roquebrune to the district of Nice, in the department of Alpes-Maritimes.
May 1814 signature of the Treaty of Paris, which grants the restoration of the Princes of Monaco.
1848 Menton and Roquebrune proclaim the downfall of the Grimaldi and affirm themselves as "free cities", under Sardinian protection. Birth of Albert I, son of Charles III.
1861 Independence of Monaco. The Principality covers 150 ha. Abolition of land, sea and monetary borders between Monaco and France.
1863 Charles III makes the Principality a tourist destination. Opening of the SBM and a casino.
June 1, 1866 Charles III gives his name to the district of Monte-Carlo (Mont-Charles) by Sovereign Order.
1869 Charles III abolishes personal, property and movable taxes as well as the patent tax.
1881 the red and white Monegasque flag is officially recognized.
1882 a Sovereign Ordinance makes possible a so-called "solemn" adoption succession for the benefit of a direct heir, of French or Monegasque nationality, approved by the French Government, in order to prevent a "foreign" Prince from being able to settle. seize
1887 the bishopric of Nice authorizes the Prince to create his own diocese.

1993 Monaco becomes the 183rd member state of the United Nations.
1997 celebration of the 700 years of the Grimaldi dynasty, making the reign of this family the oldest in the world.

2000 construction of a 352 m floating dyke on the sea (a unique process for which the international patent, filed by Monaco, makes it a world first!). First meeting between Prince Albert and Miss Charlène Wittstock on the occasion of the Meeting International
2002 Charlène Wittstock is a three-time gold medalist at the Swimming World Cup (in 50m and 100m backstroke, and 4x100m relay). She also won the silver medal in the 4x100m at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester.
April 6, 2005 death of Sovereign Prince Rainier III.
November 19, 2005 accession of Prince Albert II.
April 2006 sleigh expedition to the North Pole of HSH Prince Albert II.
2007 Prince Albert II organizes with Nelson Mandela a charity whose profits are reversed to the Amade Mondiale, the Nelson Mandela Foundation and the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund.

March 2013 birth of Sasha, son of Andrea Casiraghi, grandson of HRH Princess Caroline.
August 2013 civil marriage between Andrea Casiraghi and Tatiana Santo Domingo.
December 2013 birth of Raphaël, son of Charlotte Casiraghi, grandson of HRH Princess Caroline.
December 10, 2014 birth of twins Gabriella Thérèse Marie (born at 5:04 p.m.) and Jacques Honoré Rainier (born at 5:06 p.m.) in the maternity ward of the Princess Grace Hospital of Monaco, children of LL.AA.SS. the Prince and Princess of Monaco. Prince Jacques Honoré Rainie
May 2015 baptism of the princely twins in the cathedral Notre-Dame-Immaculée of Monaco by Monsignor Bernard Barsi. Jacques received his blessing surrounded by his godfather Christopher Le Vine Junior, son of an American cousin of the sovereign from the Grace Kelly clan, and his godmother Diane de Polignac Nigra, cousin on the side of Prince Rainier. Gabriella's godfather and godmother are relatives of South African Charlene: her younger brother Gareth Wittstock and her friend Nerine Pienaar.
