1921 Sobhuza becomes king.
1957 May 5 Birth of Richard E. Grant (actor).
1968 Sep 6 Swaziland gains independence.
1968 Sep 24 Swaziland is admitted to the UN.
1973 Apr 12 King Sobhuza II dissolves Parliament and bans political parties.
1975 Dec Zuma leaves South Africa for Swaziland.
1982 Aug 21 King Sobhuza II dies; Queen Dzeliwe becomes regent.
1983 Aug 10 Queen Ntombi takes over the regency.
1986 Apr 25 Mswati III becomes king.
2000 Sep 12 Rosa Parks is received in audience by Queen Sibonelo Mbikiza.
2003 Oct 21 The legislative elections take place, boycotted by the union opposition (the only one tolerated).
2003 nov 14 Dlamini is appointed PM.
2004 Aug 7 Anti-monarchist protesters demand political reforms.
2004 Oct 12 CITES allows Swaziland to hunt and export the white rhino.
2005 June 14 Parliament adopts a new Constitution.
2006 Mar 10 16 opponents, accused of having committed a series of Molotov cocktail attacks, are released on bail.
2007 Jul 26 Demonstrators in Mbabane are calling for the establishment of a multiparty system.
2008 Sep 4 2 explosions took place in Mbabane during demonstrations calling for democratic reforms.
2008 nov 15 Masuku, the leader of PUDEMO, is arrested for terrorism.
2009 Sep 21 Masuku, leader of PUDEMO, is released.
2018 Apr 19 King Mswati III announces that his country is changing its name to "eSwatini".
2018 Apr 19 On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of its independence, Swaziland is renamed itself "Eswatini" (the country of the Swazis).
2018 Sep 29 PM Sibusiso Barnabas Dlamini dies in Manzini hospital.
2021 Oct 16 King Mswati III closed schools in repression of anti-monarchical demonstrations.
