Saudi Arabia Timeline[edit | edit source]

Date Event
1744-1818 Alliance between the Saud and the rigorist preacher Abdelwahhab. First Saudi kingdom.
1809 First British intervention in the peninsula, against the city of Ras al-Khayma.
1824-1891 Renaissance of the Saudi state.
1916 Arab insurrection against the Ottomans, supported by the British.
1924 The Saud seize Mecca.
1932 Abdelaziz ibn Saoud founds the Saudi state.
1938 Discovery of oil in Saudi Arabia by an American company.
1944 Birth of Aramco, Washington arm which effectively administers the country.
1973 Renegotiation of the contract between Aramco and Riyadh, which in the 1980s became its sole owner.
2015 Coronation of King Salman; Mohammed ben Salman (MBS), Minister of Defense. Saudi Arabia entered the war in Yemen.
2017 MBS appointed crown prince.
