August 2, 2007 The European Transport Commission places all Indonesian airlines on the blacklist of dangerous companies, including the national company Garuda. June: capture of Abu Dujana, presumed leader of Jemaah Islamiyah.
January 27, 2008 Death of former president Soeharto
July 2008 Re-election of Mr. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono
2010 More than 13% of the Indonesian population still live below the poverty line, despite a high growth rate of over 7% per year. October: violent eruption of the Merapi volcano, near Yogyakarta (central Java): 353 dead, more than 350,000 people evacuated, and the temple of Borobudur covered with ashes. Indonesia, through President Yudhoyono, acknowledges and apologizes for the atrocities and acts of torture carried out by its army in the province of Papua.
2011 The Netherlands apologizes for the massacre of at least 150 people in the village of Rawagede (Java) during the War of Independence in 1947.
September 3, 2013 Fallout between Indonesia and Australia against a background of espionage

2015 12 foreigners are executed for drug trafficking.
January 14, 2016 Attack in Jakarta claimed by the Islamic State organization which kills 7 people.
December 7, 2016 A magnitude 6.5 earthquake kills at least 97 people in Indonesia, in Aceh province, north Sumatra.
March 10, 2017 In an interview with AFP, the Indonesian president said he was not against the idea of โ€‹โ€‹a moratorium on the death penalty. He said, however, that he would seek the advice of his people.
September 29, 2017 The Agung volcano in Bali has woken up. Tens of thousands of residents are evacuated.
December 16, 2017 A new earthquake off Java caused the death of three people. This shock felt as far as Jakarta preceded a tsunami alert, causing the displacement of several thousand inhabitants.
December 17, 2017 About 80,000 people gathered in the streets of Jakarta to protest against the US president's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
May 13, 2018 Several suicide bombings are committed against three churches and a police station in Surabaya, Indonesia's second city, by suicide bombers claiming to act on behalf of the Islamic State. 30 dead and many injured.
May 25, 2018 The Indonesian parliament voted to strengthen anti-terrorism legislation after Islamic State suicide bombings that killed more than 30 people in Surabaya.
