1722 June 13 Roggeveen discovers the archipelago of Samoa.
1768 May 2 The Bougainville expedition arrives in sight of the Small Cyclades (Samoa Islands).
1787 Dec 10 The cook of the officers of the Lapรฉrouse expedition, David, dies of scurvy hydrophysis.
1787 Dec 11 During a stopover on land, 12 members of the Lapรฉrouse expedition, including Fleuriot de Langle and Lamanon, are massacred with stones by natives of the Samoa Islands.
1870 Germans buy vast territories.
1894 Dec 3 Robert Louis Stevenson dies of cerebral congestion on the Vailima property on the island of Upolu.
1894 Dec 4 The population of the island of Upolu unites their efforts to trace a trail in the jungle to the summit of Mount Vaea: Stevenson is buried there, according to his desire, facing the sea.
1896 Jul 16 Slocum lands in Apia.
1896 August Slocum meets Fanny, widow of Stevenson, who gives him nautical guides that belonged to her husband.
1896 August 20 Slocum leaves Samoa on the Spray.
1899 Germany takes Samoa.
1914 August 29 New Zealand troops take possession of the archipelago.
1962 The Samoa Islands become independent from New Zealand.
1970 Apr 17 The 3 astronauts Lovell, Swigert and Haise, survivors of the Apollo 13 mission, land unharmed in the southern Pacific Ocean.

Helicopters arrive at the landing site of the Apollo 13 survivors to recover them and transport them to the Iwo Jima ship.

1976 Dec 15 Samoa is admitted to the UN.
2009sept 29 An earthquake (8.0) 190km south of Samoa caused a tsunami killing 178 people and around 4k victims.
2019nov 1 A measles epidemic rages: 22 dead (mainly children under 5 years).
2019 Dec 6 An earthquake (6.0) occurs.
2021 Apr 9 In the general elections, Fiame Naomi Mata'afa and Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi vie for victory.
2021 May 23 PM-elected Fiame Naomi Mata'afa is banned from entering Parliament to take the oath.
2021 Jul 23 Justice confirms that Fiame Naomi Mata'afa is the legitimate PM.
