1914 - 1918 World War I - Gibraltar was used for collecting convoys and submarine operations.
1918 HMS Britannia was torpedoed in the Straits by the German submarine U50, hundreds of people were killed.
1939–1945 World War II. Gibraltar is again used for collecting convoys and as a base for anti-submarine operations. It is the main base for the launch of the British and American campaign in North Africa.
