Going abroad for your education does not just happen! Above all, do you go for the right reasons?
Here are 5 of them:

1. Learn a foreign language

Become bilingual seems nowadays a necessity. What better way to learn a foreign language than total immersion? Continuous practice a language with native country is the best way to master it. Through your studies, you can even learn specific technical vocabulary related to your field (management, finance, communication ...). It is a very valuable asset to the recruiters. Besides the professional advantage, master other languages will allow you to get more friends easily. Why not settle in the country later? However, even there it takes time to become multilingual. You will need at least three months to have a good knowledge of the language. A one-year stay of course is best.
Once there you can participate in multilingual events to meet with local and practice intensively the language.

2. Discover a new culture

Globalization has standardized most cultures, but not completely! Each retains its specificities. It may be interesting to discover other ways of life, this will give you greater openness. You will realize that there are different ways of thinking and seeing things. With a sharp critical mind, you will now be able to compare and judge the events at home or elsewhere.

3. Build self-confidence

"Alone in the jungle", this journey into the unknown will make you mature. Without your family, you will have to get by on your own. A unique experience to build self-confidence! You will learn more about yourself but also will open up to others. You will meet many people and adapt to different situations and come back as a new person.

4. Learn differently

The teaching methods are not the same elsewhere than here, at home! You will have to adjust to a learning environment where the rules are different.

For example, in United Kingdom or the United States, teachers encourage personal thinking rather than learning by heart.
Do not worry: you will surely be up to par. If you are accepted in a foreign school, it usually means that you are a good student. Indeed, the selection is usually based on your records and your motivation.

5. Enhance your CV

The ultimate goal of studying abroad is to highlight your period of study.
In the era of globalization, an international career is more valuable to the recruiter. This shows that you are independent, open minded with a certain intellectual curiosity. To live outside your home country, you need to have adaptation skills. Those skills are highly demanded by recruiters. In addition, this experience abroad will be a way to differentiate yourself and compete more easily in the job market. Do not forget to mention your experience on your resume! "I've learned to live away from home and integrate myself to a new environment"

What if you do not want to go alone?

For certain people, leaving on its own is a pleasure. For others however, the initiative seems perilous and requires courage. It is true that obstacles exist: choice of training; health insurance; high cost of travel and residence in the foreign country ...
Students who hesitate and fear the amount of paperwork can get help from "exchange programs". They were created to best promote student mobility. However, do not expect to be able to leave at short notice. In this field, no miracle: you must prepare your departure at least one year before the scheduled departure date, if only for the registration.
