As a teacher of the Indonesian language for the past 20 years, I have seen the importance of teaching my students the basic vocabulary they need to know for everyday life. In this lesson, we will learn the Indonesian words for days, months, and seasons. Knowing these words will help you in scheduling appointments, making plans, and simply having everyday conversations with Indonesians.

Days

In Indonesia, the days of the week are based on the Gregorian calendar. The names of the days in Indonesian are very similar to English.

Senin [səˈnin] Monday
Selasa [səˈlasa] Tuesday
Rabu [ˈrabu] Wednesday
Kamis [ˈkamis] Thursday
Jumat [ˈdʒumat] Friday
Sabtu [ˈsabtu] Saturday
Minggu [ˈmiŋɡu] Sunday

Months

The months of the year are also based on the Gregorian calendar. The Indonesian words for months are similar to English but with some slight variations.

Seasons

Indonesia has two seasons, rainy season and dry season. These seasons differ depending on the region of the country. The rainy season usually occurs from October to April, while the dry season occurs from May to September. The words for these two seasons in Indonesian are:

  • musim hujan - rainy season
  • musim kemarau - dry season
