Introduction[edit | edit source]

Welcome to the lesson on learning the days of the week in Ukrainian! In this lesson, we will teach you how to say and spell the days of the week in Ukrainian. Knowing the days of the week is essential for daily conversations, scheduling appointments, and making plans. By the end of this lesson, you will be able to confidently talk about the days of the week in Ukrainian. Let's get started!

Days of the Week[edit | edit source]

The days of the week in Ukrainian are similar to those in English. However, there are a few differences in spelling and pronunciation. Here is a table showing the days of the week in Ukrainian, along with their pronunciation and English translation:

Ukrainian Pronunciation English
Понеділок poh-neh-DEE-lok Monday
Вівторок VEEV-toh-rok Tuesday
Середа se-REH-da Wednesday
Четвер CHET-ver Thursday
П'ятниця pyat-NY-tsya Friday
Субота soo-BOH-ta Saturday
Неділя neh-DEE-lya Sunday

Now, let's learn how to use these words in sentences and conversations.

Using the Days of the Week[edit | edit source]

1. To say "on" a specific day of the week, use the preposition "у" (in) followed by the day of the week in the locative case. For example:

- У понеділок я йду на роботу. (oo poh-neh-DEE-lok ya ydoo na roh-BOH-too) - On Monday, I go to work.

2. To talk about something happening in the future on a specific day, use the preposition "в" (on) followed by the accusative case of the day of the week. For example:

- В суботу ми йдемо на вечірку. (v soo-BOH-too mee y-deh-mo na veh-CHEER-koo) - On Saturday, we are going to a party.

3. If you want to say that something happened on a specific day in the past, use the preposition "в" (on) followed by the locative case of the day of the week. For example:

- В середу я був на концерті. (v se-REH-doo ya boov na kon-TSEH-ree-tee) - On Wednesday, I was at a concert.

4. When talking about recurring events or activities that happen on a specific day of the week, use the word "кожен" (every) followed by the genitive case of the day of the week. For example:

- Кожної п'ятниці я ходжу в кіно. (kozh-NO-yi pyat-NY-tsi ya khod-zhoo v KEE-no) - Every Friday, I go to the cinema.

Now that you know how to use the days of the week in sentences, let's practice with some examples.

Examples[edit | edit source]

1. Якого дня ти йдеш на роботу? (YA-koh-ho dnya ty ydesh na roh-BOH-too) - Which day do you go to work?

2. На які дні ти зайнятий? (Na YA-ki dni ty zai-NYA-tyi) - On which days are you busy?

3. У п'ятницю ми зустрінемося в ресторані. (U pyat-NY-tsyu mee zoos-TREE-neh-mo-sya v reh-sto-RA-nee) - We will meet at the restaurant on Friday.

4. В неділю я завжди гуляю з друзями. (V neh-DEE-lyu ya zavzh-DY hoo-LYAH-yoo z droo-ZHA-my) - I always hang out with friends on Sundays.

5. Кожної середи ми ходимо на футбольний тренування. (Kozh-NO-yi se-REH-dee mee ho-DY-mo na foot-BOHL-nyi tre-noo-VAN-nya) - Every Wednesday, we go to soccer practice.
