Introduction[edit | edit source]

In this lesson, we will learn about possessive pronouns in Ukrainian. Possessive pronouns are used to show ownership or possession. They replace nouns and indicate who something belongs to. For example, instead of saying "This is John's book," we can use the possessive pronoun "his" and say "This is his book." Possessive pronouns are an important part of everyday communication, so it's essential to understand how to use them correctly.

Possessive Pronouns in Ukrainian[edit | edit source]

In Ukrainian, possessive pronouns agree in gender, number, and case with the noun they modify. They also have different forms depending on whether the noun is singular or plural. Let's take a look at the possessive pronouns in Ukrainian and how they are used.

Singular Possessive Pronouns[edit | edit source]

In Ukrainian, singular possessive pronouns have the following forms:

Ukrainian Pronunciation English Translation
мій mii my
твій tviy your (informal)
його yoho his
її yiyi her
наш nash our
ваш vash your (formal)
їхній yikhniy their

Here are a few examples of how singular possessive pronouns are used in sentences:

  • Це мій будинок. (This is my house.)

In Ukrainian, plural possessive pronouns have the following forms:

Ukrainian Pronunciation English Translation

Using Possessive Pronouns in Sentences[edit | edit source]

Possessive pronouns in Ukrainian are used in a similar way to English. They can stand alone as the subject or object of a sentence, or they can modify a noun. Let's look at some examples:
