nombre refers to a number as a concept:

Chiffre[edit | edit source]
chiffre refers to the figures or digits which make up a number; it can also be used to mean 'statistics':

Numéro[edit | edit source]
numéro refers to a numbered entity:
- un numéro de téléphone
