Family Members in Malayalam

Here are the words for family members in Malayalam:

Some interesting points to note:

- In Malayalam, the word for father-in-law and grandfather are the same: മാവൻ (māvaṇ). Similarly, the word for grandfather can also be പൂമ്പാപ്പ (pūmpāpp). - The word for husband is പാപ (pāpa), which is actually the same as the word for sin, but is commonly used to refer to one's spouse.

Using Family Members in Sentences

To practice these words more, let's see some sentences using different family members. Here are some examples:

  • ഞാൻ എന്റെ അമ്മയുടെ പുതിയ പേരിൽ ബ്ലോഗ് എഴുതുന്നു. (I am writing a blog under my mother's new name.)
  • അവൻ എനിക്ക് മകൻ മാത്രം അല്ല, സൗഹൃദവും ആണ്. (He is not just my son, but also my friend.)
  • മരിയമ്മ എനിക്ക് നേരിട്ട് അലഞ്ഞുകൊടുക്കുന്നു. (Maryam slaps me directly.)
  • Note: Malayalam is a gender-neutral language, so the same word will be used to refer to the family member regardless of whether they are male or female.*

Conclusion

Now that you know the vocabulary and have seen examples of family members in sentences, I hope you found this lesson informative and interesting. Don't forget to practice using these words in different contexts and with different sentence structures. In the next lesson, we will learn how to describe people's physical appearance and personality, so stay tuned.
