丁 Dīng Ding - Mandarin Chinese
Definition[edit | edit source]
Chinese elementary school students with this surname are often the envy of their classmates, since this character is so easy to write! There also exists a chengyu (idiom) with this character, written with characters which you have learned: 目不识丁 (目不識丁) mù-bù-shí-Dīng meaning lit. “eyes not recognize (even the character) Ding,” or in more idiomatic English, “illiterate.”
