喝 hē drink in Mandarin Chinese

Definition[edit | edit source]

Radical is 口 kŏu “mouth” (140), since one drinks with one’s mouth. This radical is referred to colloquially as 口字旁 kŏuzìpáng “side made up of the character 口.” Phonetic is 曷 hé “why.”
