Bashkir Grammar - Future Tense

Hi Bashkir learners! 😊
In this lesson, we will learn about the future tense in Bashkir. We will look at how to form the future tense, and how to use it in sentences.

The future tense is used to talk about actions that will happen in the future. In Bashkir, the future tense is formed by adding the suffix -са/-сә to the verb stem. The suffix -са/-сә is added to the verb stem depending on the last letter of the verb stem.

If the last letter of the verb stem is a consonant, then the suffix -са is added. For example:

Bashkir Pronunciation English Translation
куласа kulasá to read
тураса turasá to go
хәбәр итәсә khäbär itäsä to write a letter

If the last letter of the verb stem is a vowel, then the suffix -сә is added. For example:

Bashkir Pronunciation English Translation
ачысә achysä to understand
диләсә diläsä to speak
исәсә isäsä to listen

The future tense can also be used to express an intention or a plan. For example:

Bashkir Pronunciation English Translation
мин турасам min turasam I will go
ул диләсәм ul diläsam He will speak
без ачысәм bez achysam We will understand

The future tense can also be used to express a prediction or a supposition. For example:

Bashkir Pronunciation English Translation
мин куласам min kulasam I will read
ул хәбәр итәсәм ul khäbär itäsam He will write a letter
без исәсәм bez isäsam We will listen
