Emergency Services in Portugal

In Portugal, the national emergency phone number is 112. This number can be dialed for any type of emergency, and it is attended by specific services depending on the nature of the emergency. For medical emergencies, the call is received by the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM).

The INEM is responsible for providing emergency medical service to the population 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The service includes pre-hospital emergency and urgent medical care, and medical transportation.

When you call 112, you should be prepared to provide some basic information, such as:

Your name
Your phone number
The location of the emergency
A brief description of the emergency

It is important to remain calm and speak clearly when making an emergency call. The operator will ask you a series of questions to determine the level of urgency and the type of assistance required.
