നാം താൻ വരുന്നതിൽ മുൻപും ഇരിക്കുന്നു | nām tān varunnathil munpum irikkunnu | We will have been waiting before you come |
അവൻ പഠിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു | avan paṭhiccirikkunnu | He will have studied |
Additional Notes[edit | edit source]
- In Malayalam, we don't use any auxiliary verb to construct the present continuous tense, instead, we use the present tense of the main verb. - To ask questions in Malayalam, we use the same word order as in English. For example, "Have you eaten?" is "നീ കഴിച്ചുമോ?" (nī kaḻiccumō?). - To use the negative form, we add "not" after the auxiliary verb "have". For example, "I have not eaten" is "ഞാൻ കഴിച്ചില്ല" (njān kaḻiccilla). - It is important to note that the word "have" cannot always be translated as "ഉണ്ടാക്കുക" (uṇṭākkuka) in Malayalam, as it depends on the context.
Practice Dialogue[edit | edit source]
- Person 1: നീ ചായ കുടിക്കുന്നോ? (nī cāya kuṭikkunneō?) (Have you been drinking tea?)
- Person 2: അല്ല, ഞാൻ ജൂസ് കുടിച്ചു. (alla, njān jūs kuṭicc̣u.) (No, I have been drinking juice.)
