Giving opinions

In Malayalam, to give your opinion, you can use the following phrases:

എനിക്ക് പിടിക്കുന്നു	Enikku pidikkunnu	I like it
എനിക്ക് അപ്പമോ	Enikku appamo	I don't like it
എനിക്ക് വിവേകവിഭജനം പിടിച്ചു	Enikku viveka-vibhajanam pidichu	I agree with it
എനിക്ക് തെറ്റാണ്	Enikku terthan	I disagree
എനിക്ക് എന്താണ് നല്ലത്	Enikku enthanu nallathu	I think it's good
എനിക്ക് എന്താണ് ചെറിയത്	Enikku enthanu cheriyathu	I think it's small / not important

Example

• Person 1: ഈ ചിത്രം നല്ലതാണോ? (Ee chithram nallathano?) (Is this picture good?)
• Person 2: എനിക്ക് പിടിക്കുന്നു! (Enikku pidikkunnu!) (I like it!)

Using adjectives

Adjectives are important in describing people, places, and things. In Malayalam, adjectives usually come after the noun they describe.

Here are some common adjectives in Malayalam:

Example

• Person 1: ഇനിയും ഓണം എപ്പോഴേയ്ക്കും വരാന് ഒരു place സൂക്ഷിക്കണം (Iniyyum onam eppozhaalum varaan oru place sookshikkanaam) (We need to find a place to visit during Onam)
• Person 2: അവിടെ നല്ല പേരുണ്ട്. (Avide nalla perundu.) (There is a good place there.)

Using idioms and proverbs

Malayalam is rich in idioms and proverbs that are used to express opinions, share knowledge and wisdom. These expressions have become an integral part of the language and culture.

Here are some common idioms and proverbs in Malayalam:

താഴ്ന്നു വരുന്ന നല്ല വഴിയില്	Thaazhunna varunna nalla vazhiyil	The way that comes down is the proper way

Example

• Person 1: ഞാന്‍ എന്റെ നാടിനെ കണ്ടതാണോ, വിവാഹവും ചെയ്യാനാവുമെന്നാണ് ഞങ്ങൾ പ്രൊത്സാഹിപ്പിക്കുന്നത്. (Njan ende naadinu kandathano, vivaahavum cheyyaan aavumenno njangal protsaahippikkunnu.) (I am motivated to marry my fellow villager that I saw)
• Person 2: എല്ലാ സത്യാവശ്യകതകളും നമുക്ക് പിടിക്കാം. പക്ഷേ വിവാഹം കഴിയുന്നുവെങ്കിൽ വിലക്കു (Ellaa satyaavashyakathakalum namukku pidikkam. Pakshae vivaaham kazhiyunnengil vilakka.) (We may like all the requirements, but if we are able to marry, we should go ahead.)
