Tajik Grammar - Conditional Mood

Overview[edit | edit source]

The conditional mood is formed by adding the suffixes -ам/-ем/-им/-ӯм to the verb stem. The suffixes are added depending on the last letter of the verb stem. For example, if the verb stem ends in a consonant, then the suffix -ам is added. If the verb stem ends in a vowel, then the suffix -ем is added.

Examples[edit | edit source]

  • Verb stem ending in a consonant: дохтан (to read) → дохтанам (I would read)
  • Verb stem ending in a vowel: духтан (to write) → духтанем (I would write)

Usage[edit | edit source]

The conditional mood is used to express a hypothetical situation or an action that could happen in the future. It is also used to express wishes and desires.

Examples[edit | edit source]

  • Агар ман бо духтани китоб дошта бошам, ман бо он дохтанам. (If I had enough time to write a book, I would read it.)
  • Ман агар бо даромадам, бо духтани поён доштам. (If I had money, I would write poems.)

Conclusion[edit | edit source]

In this lesson, we discussed the conditional mood in Tajik grammar. We learned how to form the conditional mood and how to use it to express hypothetical situations, future actions, and wishes and desires.
