In Odia, counting to 10 is relatively simple. Here are the numerical words:

You might notice that some of the numbers look similar to their Hindi counterparts. It is because Odia and Hindi belong to the same Indo-Aryan language family.

Fun facts about Odia culture[edit | edit source]

Odia is the official language of the Indian state of Odisha. It has a rich literary heritage dating back to the 10th century. The earliest known inscription in Odia dates back to the 10th century AD, during the reign of the Eastern Ganga dynasty.

Oriya cuisine is famous for its seafood dishes. The state of Odisha has a long coastline, and the locals take full advantage of the abundant seafood. Some of the popular seafood dishes include crab curry, prawn malai curry, and fish pakoras.

Odia music has a distinct style, heavily influenced by the classical Hindustani music tradition. The state has produced many famous musicians, such as Akshaya Mohanty, Salil Mitra, and Prafulla Kar. Odissi dance, which originated in Odisha, is one of the oldest surviving dance forms in India.
