In this lesson, we will focus on giving our opinion in Kazakh. This is an intermediate level lesson, so we assume that you already have basic knowledge of Kazakh grammar. Giving your opinion[edit | edit source]

When expressing an opinion in Kazakh, the most common word used is "fikir" (meaning "thought" or "idea"). The structure for giving an opinion is as follows:

Fikirim + (noun/pronoun) + … .

Examples:

Kazakh Pronunciation English
Фикірім бар Fikirim bar I have an opinion
Фикірімді айтуға болады Fikirimdi aytwga bolady I can express my opinion
Фикіріңіз не болып табылады? Fikiriniz ne bolyp tabylady? What is your opinion?

Let's see an example dialogue:

  • Person 1: Бұл кітап үнемі екенін түсіндім. (Bul kitap unemi ekenin tusindim) (I realized that this book is my favorite)
  • Person 2: Мен де оны үнемі екенін санаймын. (Men de ony unemi ekenin sanaımen) (I also think that it is my favorite book)

Agreeing in Kazakh[edit | edit source]

When you want to agree with someone in Kazakh, you can use the following phrases:

- Тура көрсетпесең (Tura kөrsetpesen) - If you don't mind my saying. - Мен де оған көңілділеріммен қатыстым (Men de оgan kөnіldіlerіmmen qatystym) - I agree with him. - Қатыстым (Qatystym) - I'm with you.

Examples:

Kazakh Pronunciation English
Тура көрсетпесең, Менің де үнім. Tura körsetpesen, Menim de unim. If you don't mind my saying, I also think so.
Мен де оның көңілділерімен қатыстым. Men de оnyn kөnіldіlerіmen qatystym. I agree with him too.
Қатыстым. Qatystym. I'm with you.

Let's see an example dialogue:

  • Person 1: Бұл фильм өте қызықты. (Bul film öte qyzikty) (This movie is very interesting)
  • Person 2: Әрі студенттер өзін-өзі тыңдауды көрсетіп жүремін. (Äri studentter özіn-özі tyndaudy körsetip jyremіn) (I show it to the students to see for themselves)

Disagreeing in Kazakh[edit | edit source]

When you want to disagree with someone in Kazakh, you can use the following phrases:

- Оппонентімен келіспеспін (Opponentіmen kelispespіn) - I disagree with the opponent. - Бұған қатыстым жоқ (Buğan qatystym joq) - I'm not with it. - Мен оның не дейдігін білемін. (Men onyn ne deyidigin bilіmen) - I don't know what he is talking about.

Examples:

Kazakh Pronunciation English
Оппонентімен келіспеспін. Opponentіmen kelispespіn. I disagree with the opponent.
Бұған қатыстым жоқ. Buğan qatystym joq. I'm not with it.
Мен оның не дейдігін білемін. Men onyn ne deyidigin bilіmen. I don't know what he is talking about.

Let's see an example dialogue:

  • Person 1: Бұл фильм бұрынғылардан жай тұрады. (Bul film burynğylardan zhai turady) (This movie is different from the previous ones)
  • Person 2: Мен басқа деген көзімде болады. (Men basqa degen kozimde bolady) (In my opinion, it is not different)
