In this lesson, we will learn the days of the week in Dari. Days of the week are important to know to communicate with native speakers in everyday life. How to say the Days of the Week in Dari[edit | edit source]

Here are the words for the days of the week in Dari:

Dari Pronunciation English
یکشنبه "yek-shan-beh" Monday
دوشنبه "do-shan-beh" Tuesday
سه‌شنبه "seh-shan-beh" Wednesday
چهارشنبه "char-shan-beh" Thursday
جمعه "jum'ah" Friday
شنبه "shan-beh" Saturday
یکشنبه "yek-shan-beh" Sunday

Note: In Afghanistan, the week starts on Saturday and ends on Friday.

Person 1: امروز چه روز است؟ ("Emrooz cheh rooz ast?") What day is it today?
Person 2: امروز پنج شنبه است. ("Emrooz panj shan-beh ast.") Today is Friday.
Person 1: فردا چه روزی است؟ ("Fardaa cheh roozi ast?") What day is tomorrow?
Person 2: فردا شنبه است. ("Fardaa shan-beh ast.") Tomorrow is Saturday.

Learn the Days of the Week in Dari by using them in sentences. Here are a few examples to start with:

  • امروز چه روز است؟ ("Emrooz cheh rooz ast?") What day is it today?
  • فردا چه روزی است؟ ("Fardaa cheh roozi ast?") What day is tomorrow?
  • دیشب چه روزی بود؟ ("Dishab cheh roozi bud?") What day was yesterday?
  • ماه مرداد دوازده شنبه شروع می‌شود. ("Mah-e Mordad doyazdah shan-beh shoro'e mishavad.") The month of Mordad starts on Saturday, the twelfth.
  • هر هفته شنبه را با خانواده ی خود می گذرانیم. ("Har hafta shan-beh raa ba khaanvaade-ye khod migozaranim.") Every week, we spend Saturday with our families.
