Join us for an unforgettable visit to the mesmerizing Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary 'El Rosario'.

Situated in the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt pine-oak forests ecoregion, the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve is a renowned World Heritage Site. This sanctuary serves as a haven for the over-wintering population of monarch butterflies, making it a truly unique destination. Located on the border of Michoacán and Mexico State, just 100 km (62 miles) northwest of Mexico City, the reserve welcomes millions of butterflies annually. These captivating creatures inhabit only a small portion of the vast 56,000-hectare reserve from October to March. The mission of the biosphere is to safeguard not only the butterfly species but also its precious habitat.

Prepare yourself for a moderately challenging uphill hike that takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours. We'll take it slow to acclimate to the altitude of 3000 meters and fully appreciate the breathtaking views of the forest and the enchanting Monarch Butterflies. If needed, horses will be available for assistance.

To secure your spot, please make the payment 5 to 7 days before the tour date. This allows us to arrange suitable transportation for the group.

The tour price is 1650 Mexican Pesos per person, which includes private group transport, an experienced driver, a coordinator, and entrance to the Butterfly Sanctuary.
