What is the difference betwenn "prone to" and "tend to"

Tend is more like to be "likely, or probable to do something", or to have a certain characteristic and Pron is more used to say things like "lying face downward or prostrate" it can be used as the same for saying to be Predisposed, liable, inclined but is not used to often for this.

The meaning is basically the same but the way they're used are a little different. "Tend to" is followed by a verb whereas, "Prone to" is often followed by a noun.
EX: "We tend to love cute dogs."
"We are prone to loving cute dogs."
