Transportation is an essential aspect of daily life, whether it be commuting to work or running errands. In this lesson, we will learn common Urdu words and phrases related to transportation and how to give and receive directions in Urdu.

Common Transportation Vocabulary

Here are some common forms of transportation in Urdu:

  • To ask someone about their preferred mode of transportation, we can use the phrase "آپ کیا سواری استعمال کرتے ہیں؟" (Ap kya sawari istemaal karte hain?) which means "What mode of transportation do you use?"

Giving Directions

When it comes to giving directions in Urdu, we use the following phrases:

  • "جب آپ وہاں پہنچ جائیں تو اس راستے کو اپنے بائیں ہاتھ کی طرف لیں" (Jab aap wahaa'n pahunch jayen toh iss raastay ko apnay baai'n haath ki taraf lein) means "When you reach there, take this road on your left side."
  • "صرف دو کلو میٹر دُور ہے" (Sirf do kilo meetar door hai) means "It is just two kilometers away."
  • "یہاں سے بائیں لفٹ لیں اور پھر دائیں مڑ جائیں" (Yahaan say baain left lein aur phir daain mudh jayein) means "Take a left from here and then take a right."

Here are some useful vocabulary words related to different locations around town that you may need to know when giving or receiving directions:

  • To ask for the location of a specific place, we can use the phrase "کہاں پر ہے؟" (Kahan par hai?) which means "Where is it located?"


Practice Sentences

Here are some example sentences that you can use to practice giving and receiving directions in Urdu:

  • "مجھے خانہ دانی کی دکان کہاں ہے؟" (Mujhe khana daani ki dukaan kahan hai?) means "Where is the crockery shop?"
  • "کیا آپ بہرِ پارک میں جانتے ہیں؟" (Kya aap bahar-e-park mein jantay hain?) means "Do you know how to get to the outskirts of the park?"
  • "امام باڑی کہاں ہے؟" (Imam baari kahan hai?) means "Where is the mosque?"
