爱(愛) ài love, like in Mandarin Chinese
Definition[edit | edit source]
Radical of the simplified form is 爪 zhuă “claw,” which certainly does not seem very “loving,” but fortunately the character for “friend” (友 yŏu) appears at the bottom. Radical of the traditional form is 心 xīn “heart”, indicating that an emotion is involved. Distinguish 爱 (愛) from 要 yào and 受 shòu.
