ΡΡΡΠ΄Π½ΠΎ | trudno | difficult |
Π»Π΅ΡΠ½ΠΎ | lesno | easy |
These words and phrases are essential to know when expressing your opinion in Bulgarian. Now, let's look at some example sentences to put these words and phrases into context.
Grammar[edit | edit source]
To express your opinion in Bulgarian, you need to use the verb "ΡΠΌΡΡΠ°ΠΌ" (smiatam), which means "I think." You can also use "ΠΏΡΠ΅Π΄ΠΏΠΎΡΠΈΡΠ°ΠΌ" (predpochitam), which means "I prefer," or "ΠΎΠ±ΠΈΡΠ°ΠΌ" (obicham), which means "I like."
To form a sentence, you need to follow this structure:
For example, if you want to say "I like this book," the sentence would be:
"ΠΠ· ΠΎΠ±ΠΈΡΠ°ΠΌ ΡΠ°Π·ΠΈ ΠΊΠ½ΠΈΠ³Π°." (Az obicham tazi kniga.)
Let's look at another example. If you want to say "I think the movie is good," the sentence would be:
"ΠΠ· ΡΠΌΡΡΠ°ΠΌ, ΡΠ΅ ΡΠΈΠ»ΠΌΡΡ Π΅ Π΄ΠΎΠ±ΡΡ." (Az smiatam, che filmat e dobar.)
Notice how we use "Az" to mean "I." We also use the word "che" to introduce the opinion clause (that the movie is good).
To express your opinion about something specific, you need to use the following phrase: "ΠΠ° ΠΌΠ΅Π½" (Za men). This phrase means "for me" and is used to express a personal preference. For example, if you want to say "For me, Bulgarian cuisine is the best," the sentence would be:
"ΠΠ° ΠΌΠ΅Π½ Π±ΡΠ»Π³Π°ΡΡΠΊΠ°ΡΠ° ΠΊΡΡ Π½Ρ Π΅ Π½Π°ΠΉ-Π΄ΠΎΠ±ΡΠ°ΡΠ°." (Za men bulgarskata kuhnia e nai-dobrata.)
In Bulgarian, we use a comparative form to express a preference. To say something is the best or worst, you use the following words:
- ΠΠ°ΠΉ-Π΄ΠΎΠ±ΡΠ΅ (nai-dobre) - the best - ΠΠ°ΠΉ-Π»ΠΎΡΠΎ (nai-losjo) - the worst
For example, if you want to say "This is the best coffee I've ever had," the sentence would be:
"Π’ΠΎΠ²Π° Π΅ Π½Π°ΠΉ-Π΄ΠΎΠ±ΡΠΎΡΠΎ ΠΊΠ°ΡΠ΅, ΠΊΠΎΠ΅ΡΠΎ ΡΡΠΌ ΠΏΠΈΠ»Π°/ΠΏΠΈΠ»." (Tova e nai-dobroto kafe, koeto sam pila/pil.)
Remember, in Bulgarian, the verb form agrees with the gender of the noun, so if you are a woman, you use "ΠΏΠΈΠ»Π°" (pila), and if you are a man, you use "ΠΏΠΈΠ»" (pil).
Dialogue[edit | edit source]
To help you understand how to express your opinion in Bulgarian, here's an example dialogue between two friends:
- Maria: ΠΠ°ΠΊΠ²ΠΎ ΠΌΠΈΡΠ»ΠΈΡ Π·Π° Π½ΠΎΠ²Π°ΡΠ° ΠΊΠ½ΠΈΠ³Π° Π½Π° Π‘ΡΠ΅ΡΠ°Π½ ΠΠ°ΡΠ΅Π²? (Kakvo mislish za novata kniga na Stefan Bachev?) - What do you think about Stefan Bachev's new book?
- Ivan: ΠΠ° ΠΌΠ΅Π½ Π΅ Π΄ΠΎΠ±ΡΠ°, Π½ΠΎ Π½Π΅ Π΅ ΡΠΎΠ»ΠΊΠΎΠ²Π° Π΄ΠΎΠ±ΡΠ°, ΠΊΠΎΠ»ΠΊΠΎΡΠΎ ΠΏΡΠ΅Π΄ΠΈΡΠ½Π°ΡΠ°. (Za men e dobra, no ne e tolkova dobra, kolkoto predishnata.) - For me, it's good, but it's not as good as the previous one.
- Maria: ΠΠ· ΡΡΡΠ΄Π½ΠΎ ΡΠΈ Π½Π°ΠΌΠΈΡΠ°ΠΌ Π²ΡΠ΅ΠΌΠ΅ Π·Π° ΡΠ΅ΡΠ΅Π½Π΅, ΡΠ°ΠΊΠ° ΡΠ΅ Π½Π΅ Π·Π½Π°ΠΌ. (Az trudno si nameram vreme za chetene, taka che ne znam.) - I find it difficult to make time for reading, so I don't know.
- Ivan: Π Π°Π·Π±ΠΈΡΠ°ΠΌ ΡΠ΅. (Razbiram te.) - I understand you.
In this dialogue, we see the use of "ΡΠΌΡΡΠ°ΠΌ" (I think) and "Π·Π° ΠΌΠ΅Π½" (for me). We also see the use of "ΡΡΡΠ΄Π½ΠΎ" (difficult) to express a difficulty.

(Az predpochitam moreto pred planinata.) - I prefer the sea to the mountains. - ΠΠ° ΠΌΠ΅Π½ Π½Π°ΠΉ-Π΄ΠΎΠ±ΡΠΎΡΠΎ ΠΏΠ°ΡΡΠ΅ ΡΠΎΡΡΠ° Π΅ ΡΠΎΠΊΠΎΠ»Π°Π΄ΠΎΠ²ΠΎ. (Za men nai-dobroto parche torta e shokoladovo.) - For me, the best piece of cake is chocolate. - ΠΠΈΡΠ½ΠΎ Π°Π· Π½Π΅ ΠΎΠ±ΠΈΡΠ°ΠΌ Π΄Π° Π³Π»Π΅Π΄Π°ΠΌ ΡΠΈΠ»ΠΌΠΈ Π½Π° ΡΠΆΠ°ΡΠΈΡΠ΅. (Licno az ne obicham da gledam filmi na uzhasite.) - Personally, I don't like watching horror movies.
