Macedonian language has two types of articles: definite and indefinite articles. These articles are used before a noun to indicate whether the noun is specific or nonspecific. In this lesson, you will learn how to use definite and indefinite articles in Macedonian and their placement in a sentence.

Definite Articles

Definite articles are used when referring to a specific noun, something that has already been mentioned or is well-known by the speaker and the listener. In Macedonian language, there is only one definite article, which is "the" in English, and it's "тоа" in Macedonian.

Here are some examples:

Macedonian Pronunciation English
Тоа е куче. Toa e kuche. It is the dog.
Тоа е книга. Toa e kniga. It is the book.
Тоа е дом. Toa e dom. It is the house.

The definite article "тоа" is placed before the noun it refers to, just like in English.

Indefinite Articles

Indefinite articles are used when referring to a nonspecific noun, something that has not been mentioned yet. In Macedonian language, there is no indefinite article, like "a" or "an" in English. Instead, the noun is used in its basic form without any article.

Here are some examples:

Macedonian Pronunciation English
Куче Kuche Dog
Книга Kniga Book
Дом Dom House

As you can see, in Macedonian language, the noun is used in its basic form without any article.

Definite and Indefinite Articles with Adjectives

When an adjective is used with a noun, the definite article is always placed before the noun and the adjective, while the indefinite article is not used at all. Here are some examples:

Macedonian Pronunciation English
Тоа е красиво куче. Toa e krasivo kuche. It is the beautiful dog.
Тоа е интересна книга. Toa e interesna kniga. It is the interesting book.
Тоа е голем дом. Toa e golem dom. It is the big house.

As you can see, the definite article "тоа" is placed before the noun and the adjective in Macedonian language.

Definite and Indefinite Articles with Plurals

When referring to plural nouns, the definite article "тоа" is not used at all, while the indefinite article is still not used. Here are some examples:

Macedonian Pronunciation English
Кучиња Kuchinja Dogs
Книги Knigi Books
Домови Domovi Houses

As you can see, there is no need for an article when referring to plural nouns in Macedonian language.

Summary

- Macedonian language has only one definite article: "тоа" which means "the" in English. - Macedonian language doesn’t have any indefinite articles, so nouns are used in their basic form. - When using adjectives with nouns, the definite article is placed before both the noun and the adjective. - In the case of plural nouns, no articles are used.

Congratulations! Now you know how to use definite and indefinite articles in Macedonian language. Keep practicing and see you in the next lesson!
