Places Around Town

Serbian language has its roots in the Slavic group of languages, and it has a rich vocabulary when it comes to city life. Here are some of the most common places you might find in a Serbian town:

Here are some phrases that will come in handy when you are looking for directions:

  • Molim Vas, kako se ide do...? - Excuse me, how do I get to...?
  • Gde se nalazi...? - Where is...?
  • Kako da stignem do...? - How do I get to...?
  • Idite pravo - Go straight
  • Skrenite levo/desno - Turn left/right
  • Na uglu - On the corner
  • U blizini - Nearby

For example, you could ask someone, "Molim Vas, kako se ide do pošte?" (Excuse me, how do I get to the post office?) and they might reply, "Idite pravo, pa skrenite levo na uglu" (Go straight, then turn left on the corner).
