Kazakh Grammar - How to Use "Be"

Hi Kazakh learners! 😊
In this lesson, we will learn how to use the verb "be" in Kazakh. We will look at the conjugation of the verb and how it is used in different contexts.

Kazakh has two forms of the verb "to be": болу (bolu) and болып табылады (bolıp tabıladı). The former is used for permanent states, while the latter is used for temporary states. Let's look at some examples:

  • Person 1: Сен кім? (Sen kim?) - Who are you?
  • Person 2: Мен астаналық екенім. (Men astanalıq ekenim.) - I am from Astana.

In this example, the verb "to be" is used in its permanent form, болу (bolu). This is because the speaker is talking about a permanent state - where they are from.

Now let's look at an example of the verb "to be" used in its temporary form, болып табылады (bolıp tabıladı):

  • Person 1: Сен не келесі күнде? (Sen ne kelesi künde?) - What day are you free next?
  • Person 2: Мен келесі аралық күнде болып табылады. (Men kelesi aralıq künde bolıp tabıladı.) - I am free next Wednesday.

In this example, the verb "to be" is used in its temporary form, болып табылады (bolıp tabıladı), as the speaker is talking about a temporary state - when they are free.
