It is important to know that most of the fruit names in Somali are borrowed from Arabic but pronounced in a Somali way.

Fun facts about fruits in Somalia[edit | edit source]

- Somalia is one of the largest producers of bananas in the Horn of Africa region. In fact, the banana is an essential crop in Somalia, and it is not uncommon for one to be served as a snack with a cup of tea. - Mangoes are prevalent in Somalia and are often eaten both ripe and unripe. Unripe mangoes are sliced and served with salt, chili powder, and lemon juice. - Durian, a tropical fruit known for its strong smell, is not grown in Somalia but is readily available from neighboring countries like Kenya and Tanzania. - Dates are a favorite in Somalia and known to have many health benefits, including high fiber content and essential minerals such as potassium and magnesium.
