Let's start with the basics.

Unique Slovak Fruits[edit | edit source]
Slovakia is also home to some unique fruits that you may not find in other parts of the world. Here are some examples:

Ríbezle and brusnice are commonly used in traditional Slovak recipes, such as for making jam or fruit-filled pastries. Kiwi and wild strawberries are more recent additions to Slovak cuisine, but are still enjoyed by many.
Let's see how we can use some of these unique fruits in a dialogue:
- Person 1: Pozerala som v televízii varenie s brusnicami. (I was watching a cooking show with cranberries.)
- Person 2: Ja mám radi brusnicový koláč. A ty? (I love cranberry cake. How about you?)
- Person 1: Ja mám radšej ríbezľové pirohy. (I prefer currant filled dumplings.)
Fruit Idioms[edit | edit source]
Like in any language, Slovak language includes some popular fruit-related idioms.
Here are some examples:
- Mať citrón (to have a lemon) - meaning to be in a bad mood or to have bad luck
- Kráľovská hruška (royal pear) - describing something that is of great value
- Hovoriť o jabĺčkach a hruškách (to talk about apples and pears) - meaning to have a diplomatic conversation or to avoid discussing a tricky topic directly
