Traditional Clothes[edit | edit source]

Traditional clothes in Saidi Arabic speaking countries are a symbol of their rich culture and heritage. These clothes are not only worn on special occasions but also on a daily basis.

In Egypt, for instance, men wear a Gallabeya, a long, loose-fitting shirt or tunic, worn over trousers. Women, on the other hand, wear a Jalabiya, which is a long, loose-fitting dress, usually made of cotton or linen, and worn with a headscarf called a shawl.

In Saudi Arabia, men wear a Thobe, which is a long, white robe-like garment with long sleeves, while women wear an Abaya, which is a long, black, cloak like garment that covers the entire body except for the face, hands, and feet.

Now, let’s move on to the everyday clothes that people wear.

It is important to note that cultural practices dictate certain dress codes in some Saidi Arabic speaking countries. For example, in Saudi Arabia, women are required to wear an Abaya and cover their heads with a scarf in public. In Egypt, it is common for women to wear a headscarf or Hijab, while men can be seen wearing the traditional Gallabeya.

Now, let's learn how to use these words in context by creating a dialogue.

- Person 1: انا بجد بحب ملابس الدينم. (ana bejadd bahib malabis el-denim) (I really love denim clothes.) - Person 2: انا كمان. بس فى رأيي الملابس الرسمية بتكون احسن فى اللبس فى الشغل. (ana kaman. Bas fi ra'yee el-malabis el-resmeia betkon ahsan fila-lobes fil-shoghul) (Me too. But in my opinion, formal clothes are better to wear at work.)

That was great! Keep up the good work! If you want to improve your Saidi Arabic vocabulary, you can also use the Polyglot Club website. Find native speakers and ask them any questions!
