Saidi Arabic Vocabulary - Days of the Week

Hi Saidi Arabic learners! 😊

In this lesson, we will go over the days of the week in Saidi Arabic. It is important to learn these basic vocabulary words in order to be able to speak Arabic with confidence.

Take some time to dive into these other pages after completing this lesson:How to say Good Bye?, Counting and Numbers, Geography & Directions.

Days of the Week[edit | edit source]

Here are the days of the week in Saidi Arabic:

Saidi Arabic Pronunciation English
يوم الاثنين yoom el-ethnayn Monday
يوم الثلاثاء yoom el-thalatha Tuesday
يوم الأربعاء yoom el-arba'a Wednesday
يوم الخميس yoom el-khamees Thursday
يوم الجمعة yoom el-guma'a Friday
يوم السبت yoom el-sabet Saturday
يوم الأحد yoom el-ahad Sunday

It is important to note that Fridays are very significant in the Islamic world, as it is the day of Jummah prayer. On Fridays, many Muslims go to the mosque (Jami'a) for prayers.

To practice these words in context, let's have a quick dialogue:

  • Person 1: يوم الجمعة، نصلي في الجامع. (yoom el-guma'a, nesalli fel jami'a.) (On Fridays, we pray at the mosque.)
  • Person 2: ما شاء الله، دايما مؤدي الصلاة في وقتها. (ma sha' allah, dayman mo'di essalah fel wa't'ha.) (Wow, always performing the prayer on time.)

Fun Facts about the Week[edit | edit source]

In many Middle Eastern and Islamic countries, the workweek starts on Sunday and ends on Thursday. Friday and Saturday are considered the weekend days.

In Egypt, the official weekend days are Friday and Saturday, making Sunday the first day of the workweek.

Did you know that Wednesday in Arabic is known as "arb'a," which means four, but is named after the planet Mercury?
