Northern Kurdish Vocabulary - Count to 10

Hi Northern Kurdish learners! 😊
In this lesson, we will learn how to count to 10 in Northern Kurdish. Counting is one of the basic skills in any language, and it’s essential if you want to go shopping, pay for things or just want to impress your Kurdish friends. So, let’s start!

Numbers 1-10[edit | edit source]

Let's start with the most basic numbers. In this section, you will learn how to count to 10 in Northern Kurdish.

Northern Kurdish Pronunciation English

heşt hesht eight
neh neh nine
deh deh ten

Let's see some examples:

  • Person 1: Rewşa te çawa ye? (How are you?)
  • Person 2: Baş, tu çend kes in? (Fine, how many people are you?)
  • Person 1: Ez yek kes im. (I am one person.)
  • Person 2: Ez du kesîm. (I am two persons.)

As you can see, it’s easy to use numbers in Kurdish, and with some practice, you will be able to count to 100 or even 1000!

Kurdish culture has a rich history, and it's one of the oldest cultures in the world. Kurds have a unique and vibrant heritage that comprises a blend of different ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Kurds have preserved their traditions and customs over the centuries, despite years of oppression, persecution, and displacement.

The Kurdish language belongs to the Indo-European family of languages, and it's closely related to Persian and Pashto. Kurdish is written in the Latin script, and it has several dialects, including Northern Kurdish, Central Kurdish, and Southern Kurdish.

Kurds celebrate several traditional festivals throughout the year, including Newroz, which is a celebration of the Kurdish New Year. Newroz is celebrated on March 21st, and it marks the beginning of spring.
