Northern Kurdish people's health is closely related to their culture and lifestyle. Kurds have been using traditional medicine for centuries to treat illness and focus on prevention. According to Kurdish culture, hot soups and teas can prevent colds, and honey is used for treating coughs. Northern Kurdistan has abundant plant species that are used for medical purposes. The well-known Sahlep drink is made from wild orchids and is used to cure flu-like symptoms. Northern Kurdish people believe that eating and drinking cold food items can make them sick, especially after surgery. Faith and spirituality play an essential role in Kurdish healing. People also seek traditional healers, known as "drame" or "şarlatan", alongside visits to medical professionals.
