Before we dive into Korean geography, let's review some basic terminology.

Korean Geography[edit | edit source]

Korea is a peninsula located in East Asia. It is surrounded by the Yellow Sea to the west, and the Sea of Japan to the east. Korea is divided into two countries: North Korea (์กฐ์„ ๋ฏผ์ฃผ์ฃผ์˜์ธ๋ฏผ๊ณตํ™”๊ตญ Joseon Minjujueui Inmin Gonghwaguk) and South Korea (๋Œ€ํ•œ๋ฏผ๊ตญ Daehan Minguk). South Korea is located on the southern half of the peninsula and has four primary regions:

Regions of South Korea[edit | edit source]

1. Gyeongsang[edit | edit source]

Gyeongsang is located in the southeast corner of South Korea. It is divided into two regions: Gyeongsangbuk-do (North Gyeongsang Province) and Gyeongsangnam-do (South Gyeongsang Province). These two regions are known for their beautiful beaches, rolling hills, and delicious food.

2. Jeolla[edit | edit source]

Jeolla is located in the southwest corner of South Korea. It is divided into two regions: Jeollabuk-do (North Jeolla Province) and Jeollanam-do (South Jeolla Province). Historically, this region is famous for its beautiful landscape and culturally rich history.

3. Chungcheong[edit | edit source]

Chungcheong is located in the center of South Korea. It is divided into two regions: Chungcheongbuk-do (North Chungcheong Province) and Chungcheongnam-do (South Chungcheong Province). This region is known for its agricultural productivity, traditional foods, and cultural heritage.

4. Gyeonggi[edit | edit source]

Gyeonggi is located in the northwest corner of South Korea. It is the most populous province and is directly adjacent to North Korea. Gyeonggi is home to the capital city, Seoul, and is known for its modernization, cultural heritage sites, and bustling cities.

Korea's geography is dotted with many national parks, landmarks, and cultural sites. These landmarks reflect the country's rich history and cultural legacy. Here are a few of the most well-known landmarks in Korea:
