What is the Conditional Mood?[edit | edit source]

The conditional mood is used to express a hypothetical situation or a wish. It is also used to express politeness when making requests. In Halh Mongolian, the conditional mood is formed by adding the suffix -s to the verb stem.

Examples[edit | edit source]

Here are some examples of the conditional mood in action:

  • Би хүсэлтэй байна - I would like (lit. I am with request)
  • Та ирэх боломжтой байвал - If you could come (lit. If you come possibility)
  • Та амьдралыг хангах боломжтой байвал - If you could understand the meaning (lit. If you understand the meaning possibility)

Using the Conditional Mood[edit | edit source]

The conditional mood is used to express politeness when making requests. For example, if you want to ask someone to do something, you can use the conditional mood to make your request sound more polite.

For example, instead of saying "Та ирэх хэрэгтэй" (You should come), you can say "Та ирэх боломжтой байвал" (If you could come).

The conditional mood can also be used to express a hypothetical situation. For example, instead of saying "Би ирэх болох юм" (I will come), you can say "Би ирэх боломжтой байвал" (If I could come).

Conclusion[edit | edit source]

In this lesson, we have discussed the conditional mood in Halh Mongolian. We have seen how it is used to express politeness when making requests and to express hypothetical situations.

Now that you have a better understanding of the conditional mood, you should be able to use it correctly in your conversations.
