Vocabulary[edit | edit source]

Here are some expressions that you can use to give your opinion in German.

Grammar[edit | edit source]

To structure a sentence with an opinion, use one of the expressions from the vocabulary list above, followed by a verb in the subordinating conjunction dass (that), and finally the main clause. Here are some examples:

Meiner Meinung nach sollten wir mehr Zeit mit der Familie verbringen.

Translation: In my opinion, we should spend more time with family.

Meines Erachtens ist das Essen in diesem Restaurant hervorragend.

Translation: In my opinion, the food in this restaurant is excellent.

Ich denke, dass wir in unserem Land viele Probleme haben.

Translation: I think that, we have many problems in our country.

Meine Ansicht ist, dass Sport sehr wichtig für die Gesundheit ist.

Translation: My point of view is that, sports are very important for health.

Meine Überzeugung nach ist, dass wir alle etwas zum Wohl der Gesellschaft beitragen sollten.

Translation: My conviction is that, we should all contribute something for the good of society.

Meine Erfahrung nach ist, dass es sich lohnt, eine neue Sprache zu lernen.

Translation: My experience is that, it's worth it to learn a new language.

Dialogue[edit | edit source]

Here's a dialogue to illustrate how to use opinions in a conversation:

  • Person 1: Wie findest du den Film?

(Translation: What do you think of the movie?)

  • Person 2: Meiner Meinung nach ist der Film wirklich langweilig.

(Translation: In my opinion, the movie is really boring.)

  • Person 1: Oh, das denke ich nicht. Ich finde die Handlung sehr interessant.

(Translation: Oh, I don't think that. I find the plot very interesting.)

  • Person 2: Tatsächlich? Meines Erachtens sind die Charaktere sehr flach.

(Translation: Really? In my opinion, the characters are very shallow.)

  • Person 1: Also, ich denke, dass diese Art von Filmen nicht für jeden geeignet ist.

(Translation: Well, I think that this type of movies is not suitable for everyone.)

Here are some tips to remember when giving your opinion in German:

- Always use expressions from the vocabulary list to introduce your opinion. - When using the word "dass" to introduce your opinion, remember that it requires a verb in the subordinating clause. - Listen carefully to other people's opinions and use them to engage in discussion.
