Cat[edit | edit source]

قطة qaṭṭa cat
  • Person 1: واش في قطة عندكم؟ (wach fi qaṭṭa ʿndkum?) - (Do you have a cat?)
  • Person 2: نعم, عندي وحدة. (naʿam, ʿndi wahda) - (Yes, I have one.)

In Algeria, cats are considered good luck and are valued as protectors of the home against evil spirits.

Dog[edit | edit source]

كلب kalb dog
  • Person 1: شنو اسم كلبك؟ (shnu ism kalbk?) - (What's your dog's name?)
  • Person 2: اسمو روكو. (ismu rokku) - (His name is Rocco.)

In Algeria, dogs are often used for hunting and as guard animals.

In Algeria, chicken is a common ingredient in traditional dishes like couscous and tajine.

Camels are commonly used for transportation and as a source of milk and meat in Algerian desert regions.
