Can I say "Sie sind ein Mädchen" if I intend to say 'she is a girl'? Wouldn't the translation be litetally 'They are a girl'?
I mean, on Duolingo they have put this way and I can't realise why. Please, could anyone explain me?

bilingual-SophieJuly 2013 Sie sind ein Mädchen is wrong. It would be: Sind sie ein Mädchen? To ask if she is a girl. If you just want to say" you are a girl" than you say "du bist ein Mädchen", or in the polite form "Sie sind ein Mädchen" (or better "Sie sind eine Frau"). Hope that helps you. |
BobetJuly 2013 Boa tarde Tupiniquim! Just bad translation I guess. 'Sie ist ein Mädchen' is the only acceptable translation. Take care! |
