Tuniejadstvo
- This morning for me was marked by freedom - I finally and completely left my job!
- In Russian the words job and work (rabota and rabotat’) are cognate words with slave (rab).
- Actually, I haven’t been working for about two months now, but final point was made just today.
- In this case, if I would live in Soviet time, I was named “tuniejadiec”.
- This Russian word is something like parasite, although I find that Russian word is more capacious. According to the Soviet ideology, each person should work, to labor for the benefit of society.
- In the Soviet years “tuniejadiec” indiscriminately was call any person who doesn’t work and leads an antisocial lifestyle.
- Well, I completely suit to this description.
- As in his time also suited a famous Russian poet Joseph Brodsky.
- Who was convicted and sentenced in 1964 to 5 years of forced labor in remote areas...
- Fortunately for me, times and social order are different now.
- Stiff and rigid, despising personality and property regime is in the past.
- Actually, not everything is good even now and not completely appropriate the time.
- At least a law doesn’t persecute in this case anymore - a person can live in that way as he like, work or not.
- Although between an elderly people, who grew in that Soviet time, I mostly will find a reproach and a condemnation.
- It means just that mustiness and narrowness are no longer just in laws, but mostly in people itself.
- By their opinion, all which is different from typical, mass, generally accepted is evil and harm.
- This country is still very far from freedom, impartiality and respect for the individual.
- So, there is nothing unusual that my lifestyle could be call antisocial and I don’t want to work ”to the benefit of this society”.
