- I decided to talk about my expérience as an oyster seller.
- The Company’s name is Huitres Dieulafait, I worked there 3 months in 2019, I was working alone on a port, at Courseulles it was an avenue of something like 10 different companies which were selling, fishes, oysters, shellfish… About the company, it was a small one, created by a young couple of oyster farmer.
- In addition to them, there were 3 employees but as a seller I was the only one.
- To describe my tasks, first of all I arrived at the warehouse at 8AM, I took the oyster crates out of the very cold and salted water, then thanks to the sound I had to recognize which ones were dead.
- After that I had a very short time to prepare tens of oyster baskets according to the different sizes.
- Afterwards (afterwords) I loaded the truck and drove to the port.
- Then I had to organize my stand.
- It was days of 11hours, including 8 on the port because I had 2hours to eat between 1 and 3PM.
- At the end of the day the process is the same but in the opposite way..
- it was an intense experience, it was cold and wet all the time, in the fall we were in ski clothes.
- It was physical, and I spent my day waiting for customers who didn’t come.
- but it is a rewarding experience because I know what the effort is, and I knew how to integrate myself in a rather particular environment.
