Translation of a fragment of "La gloire de mon père" Pagnol
- Around August, 10th, the holydays were interrumpted, during a whole afternoon, by a thunder, which generated/created as feared and predicted, a dictation.
- Uncle Jules, (seated?)in a armchair near the glass door, was reading a newspaper.
- Paul, crouched/squat in a dark corner, was playing alone at dominoes.
- My mother was sewing near the window.
- Mu father seated front to the table, […] was reading out/aloud, reapeating twice or three times every sentence, an incomprehensible story, which was telling/told/ was about the adventure of a bunch of grape.
- The Family man was picking out it in his vineyard, but he won’t/wouldn’t eat it : he would bring it to the House, to offer it to the Housewife.
- This one, very touched/emotional, gave it secretly/in secret/on the sly to her son, who without telling it to anyone/anybody gave it to his sister.
- But this one didn’t touch it neither.
- She was waiting the return of the father, who, refinding the bunch in his plate, hug all the family in his arms, looking up at the sky.
- The journey of this bunch stopped here, and I was wondering who might had eaten it, when uncle Jules folded his newspaper and said severely: «This is a page you should learn by heart».
