  • To censor or not?

    • There are different opinions regard to the question whether TV, radio and other sources of information and content produced by them should be supervised strongly.
    • One part of the society, mostly conservative, sure that government obliged to check any information before publishing, other controversially insists on negative influence of this phenomenon, arguing that any intervention unacceptable, does not matter how delicate it is to exercise.
  • Both sides of the argument will be analyzed before a logical conclusion is drawn and my own perspective is given.
    • It is known that information is a powerful tool for influencing society, therefore, there is a possibility that some individuals will resort to various tricks to achieve the desired result using false news.
  • Moreover, it is obvious that one of the main tasks of any state is the protection of citizens, including dangerous information that can become a threat to the stability of society.
  • If the state would not filter the information, some terrorist organizations, using the media, can try to influence the younger generation, and there are many such examples in history.
    • For example, according to a court decisions, in my country users are denied access to various Internet portals that place illegal information.
    • Looking from the other point of view, it is impossible to disagree that freedom of expression is one those pillars on which any civilized society relies and progresses.
  • In other words, without freedom of speech, it is impossible to postulate a completely free state, no matter what other freedoms and benefits it can substitute for.
  • In addition, it is also likely that the opposite situation will happen when political leaders, using censorship, will in such a way eliminate political competitors under the cover of a struggle, for instance, with terrorism.
  • In conclusion, I am convinced that the government should closely monitor the situation, intervening only in cases where it threatens citizens, strictly observing democratic values.
