As a language teacher with 20 years of experience, I often get asked about the differences and similarities between Spanish and Portuguese. Although these two languages are different, they share many similarities that make it easier for learners to pick up either language once they've mastered one. In this lesson, we will compare the similarities between Spanish and Portuguese.

Similarities between Spanish and Portuguese[edit | edit source]

When comparing Spanish and Portuguese, we can find many similarities in vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation. These similarities make it easier for learners of one language to recognize and learn the other language.

Spanish and Portuguese share many words that are similar in meaning and pronunciation. This is because both languages have their roots in Latin.
