怕 pà fear in Mandarin Chinese
Definition[edit | edit source]
Radical is 心 xīn “heart” (262), since “fear” is an emotion. When at the left side of a character, this radical is referred to colloquially as 心字旁 xīnzìpáng “side made up of the character 心” and is written as 忄. Phonetic is 白 bái “white” (328). Distinguish 怕 from 白.
